Cardboard Chair
A group project. Mission: design a way to turn a square metre of cardboard into a chair that holds 400 pounds!
In our first month of our engineering degree, we were given a square meter of cardboard and instructed to
cut it up and interlock it so that it could reliably hold up to 400 pounds – no adhesives allowed.
We ended up achieving best-in-class performance.
My contributions included general prototyping using mad origami skills and the design of a bonus-point IKEA-style index card
to communicate how to construct a chair like ours without using words. The professor ended up keeping my
index card design to show to upper-year classes as a prime example of accessibility in design.
